Thinking sustainable means acting now to build the future. Our sustainability ambitions, integrated into corporate strategies, are embodied in actions and targets aimed at generating positive impacts on the planet, people and the economic system.

We firmly believe that, in order to build a sustainable future, it is necessary to generate positive impacts on the planet, on people and on the economic system.
To develop our sustainability strategies, we have analysed the challenges posed by the complex context in which we operate, in particular:
- The decarbonisation objectives set out in the European plans, in particular that of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. For a gas distribution operator like Italgas, this means paying increasing attention to renewable gases, such as biomethane and hydrogen, which will play a crucial role in the energy transition.
- The social challenges, linked in particular to the new specialized skills required by the energy transition and technological evolution, to the changes in the expectations of young workers, to the increasing importance of issues related to Diversity and Inclusion.
- Factors of regulatory changes at the European level that extend the responsibility of companies beyond organisational boundaries, along the entire supply chain. This leads us to integrate environmental and social criteria not only in our strategies, but also in the evaluation of suppliers.
To respond to these challenges, we have developed an innovative model, identifying a series of actions, accompanied by targets, to generate a positive impact on the capital we draw on. These commitments are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and are spelled out in our Sustainable Value Creation Plan 2023-2029.

Italgas in the ecological transition
Our infrastructures play a crucial role in the ecological transition. Gas distribution networks are indispensable, in the short term to replace more polluting sources and in the long term to convey renewable gases. In the water sector, we put our know-how at the service of a more efficient network.

Our path, our performances
We actively involve our stakeholders in the definition of our materiality analysis, while internally, the “sustainability ambassadors” disseminate our values. We make our data and performance available, so that everyone can verify the results in our actions.
An integrated strategy
Our sustainability path is closely integrated into the 2023-2029 Strategic Plan, which aims to develop and digitize gas distribution assets in Italy and Greece, also allowing us to establish ourselves in water distribution and energy efficiency.

Our sustainability strategy is fully aligned with the values that guide us. As stated in our Purpose, "we offer all our energy to accelerate the ecological transition".
