Our strategic vision
The 2023-2029 Strategic Plan, presented on 15th June 2023, provides for investments of 7.8 billion euros to extend our network, complete the digital transformation and place us in a leading role in the energy transition.
Scenario and context in which we operate
The context continues to be strongly affected by the effects of the war in Ukraine; with REPowerEU, the EU has mapped out a path – aimed at ensuring the achievement of the objectives of diversification of sources, energy security, decarbonisation of consumption and economic competitiveness of companies – that leverages renewable gases (biomethane and hydrogen) and energy efficiency.
Biomethane and hydrogen are the sources that by 2030 will have to replace about 50% of the share of Russian natural gas imported into the EU (about 70 of the 155 billion cubic meters in 2021). An objective that entrusts gas DSOs with the responsibility of guaranteeing the energy security of the Union, equipping their respective countries with digital, intelligent and flexible networks, also capable of stimulating the production of these gases, encouraging direct connections and enabling their widespread use.

The vision and strategic choices made in recent years put Italgas in a position to contribute significantly to its solution thanks to digitized, flexible and intelligent networks, able to accommodate renewable gases that enable diversification of sources, decarbonization of consumption and greater efficiency and economy.

Strategic Plan 2023-2029
The new Plan provides for total investments of 7.8 billion euros mainly dedicated to interventions for the development of assets and gas distribution activities in Italy and Greece, energy efficiency activities and development in the watersector. In this sector, following the recently announced agreements to acquire Veolia’s assets, the Group expects to seize further growth opportunities.
